The Major League Baseball All-Star Game, also known as the “Midsummer Classic“, is an annual baseball game between players from the National League (NL) and the American League (AL), currently selected by a combination of fans, players, coaches, and managers. The All-Star Game usually occurs on the second Tuesday in July and marks the symbolic halfway point in the Major League Baseball (MLB) season (though not the mathematical halfway point; in most seasons, that actually takes place one week earlier). The game is usually played on a Tuesday, with no regular-season games scheduled on the day before or the day after. These are the only two calendar days in the year in which no regular-season or preseason games in any of the major professional sports leagues of the United States are scheduled. From 1959 to 1962, two All-Star Games were held each season, but this format was abandoned.
We’ve made a PowerPoint presentation and a video to recall the memorable moments of MLB All-Star Game, enjoy!
Spain have been crowned World Cup champions with a 1-0 victory over the Netherlands in extra time.
This was Spain’s first World Cup Final, but they are reigning European Champions. Their previous best World Cup finish was fourth place in 1950.
Andres Iniesta fired home the winner when he was put through in the area by Cesc Fabregas.
Dutch keeper Maarten Stekelenburg dived to his right and got a hand to the ball he could not keep it out.
The defeat was heartbreaking for the Dutch, who were down to 10 men after John Heitinga was sent off in extra time. It was their third World Cup final loss after 1974 and 1978.
Germany won the 2010 World Cup in South Africa playoff game for the third place against Uruguay 3:2 scoring the wining goal with only eight minutes of the match remaining.
Both sides wanted to finish the World Cup on a winning note and the first half of the match under a heavy rain in Port Elizabeth ended 1:1 after Germany’s Thomas Muller and Uruguay’s Edinson Cavani traded goals.
With ten minutes of the second half played Uruguay’s Diego Forlan scored another for his team, but the goal was shortly answered by Germany’s Marcell Jansen.
The teams seemed to finish the main time of the match at the 2:2 draw but Germany’s Sami Khedira netted the winner on the 82nd minute to earn his country fourth bronze of the World Cup series.
The 2010 World Cup winner will be determined on Sunday night between two European teams, Spain and the Netherlands, which both never previously won the world championship.
