A product that Steve Jobs would never agree during his time as CEO, a smaller iPad, also called iPad Mini is on the tide of the hot rumor.

It is said that this 7.85-inch iPad Mini will be released this fall. Two LCD panel suppliers, LG and AU Optronics, have been selected to produce the panes for the much rumored device. Last year, the emergency of 7-inch Kindle Fire provides a boost to Android’s tablet market share, and that again brought up the rumor of an iPad Mini.

Lance Whitney in a CNET blog said "An iPad mini could be the ticket to combat the Kindle Fire and other smaller tablets. But Apple typically sets the trends rather following those already set by others. So if we do see an iPad mini this year, I’d expect Apple to add some kind of twist to distinguish it from its Android rivals."

Indeed, nothing can help iPad Mini to compete with Kindle Fire except the same affordable price. That’s why some believe the iPad Mini will offer a price range of $249 to $299. If that is true, there is chance for the new iPad Mini.

We’re still short on the iPad Mini specs right now, but these rumors seem reasonable in consideration of the low price.

Screen: 7.85-inch with 1024×768 resolution

Storage: 8GB

Processor: A5

Battery: smaller

The iPad Mini will have thin-film touch technology, which enables the iPad Mini to be thinner because it has one less layer than the current structure. In addition, the technology will help reduce costs.

Some people are skeptical about the rumor of iPad Mini. Steve Jobs famously dismissed the idea in October 2010, saying: "The 10in screen size is the minimum size required to create great tablet apps. 7in tablets are tweeners: too big to compete with a smartphone, and too small to compete with an iPad."

Anyway, as customers, we’d like to see a smaller iPad on market to compete with the Amazon Kindle Fire, and we’re curious what Apple can deal with a smaller iPad.
