As we all know, Microsoft Office PowerPoint, which has powerful, practical, thoughtful and self-defined functions, is popular with business people, educators, students, trainers etc.

FIFA World Cup 2010 has been the second-to-none hot topic recently, and has brought infinite happiness and enthusiasm to soccer/football fans around the world.

Adding FIFA World Cup theme background pictures to your PowerPoint file and creating presentations telling the stories between you and soccer/football are in vogue, so I will provide step-by-step procedures of this function in PowerPoint 2007/2010 separately for you to know this often-used function.

Set Background Picture for a PowerPoint file in PowerPoint 2007.

Step 1 Right-Click the slide (press and hold Ctrl and click more than one slide to select multiple slides) from the Slides on the left, and you will find the Format Background option from the dropdown menu.

Step 2 Click Format Background, and the Format Background window appears.

Step 3 Click Fill, and select Picture or texture fill.

Step 4 Click File to select and insert the picture you prefer. Meanwhile, click Clipboard to paste a picture you copied. To use clip art (clip art: A single piece of ready-made art, often appearing as a bitmap or a combination of drawn shapes.) as a background picture, please click Clip Art. You can find the picture you like through typing some keywords in the Search Text box and clicking Go, or click Import to choose other pictures.

Step 5 You can also adjust the Transparency by dragging the slider, and define the brightness and contrast by click Picture below Fill.

Step 6 Click Close to use the picture as a background for the slides you selected. Click Apply to All to use the picture as a background for all the slides in your presentation.

Step 7 If you want to add other pictures for the rest slides, please repeat the steps aforementioned.

Then the background picture setting is completed as shown in the below picture.

In comparison with PowerPoint 2007, PowerPoint 2010 has more fluent user interface, and the striking ribbon (for example, the “File” on the top left corner in the figure below) was designed to optimize key PowerPoint presentation scenarios to make them easier to use.

The steps of adding the background pictures are largely identical but with minor differences. Right-Click the slide for which you want to add background pictures, the pop-up Format Background window has three new tags: Picture Correction (used to set the brightness and contrast for the picture, and sharpen or soften your picture), Picture Color (used to set the color saturation and color tone) and Artistic Effects.

Click File to select and insert the picture from the file where the picture is saved, and define some options listed in the window.

Finally, click Close to apply the background picture to selected slide(s), or click Apply to All to let the picture be used for all the slides. An example is shown in the below picture.
